Ready For Some Nostalgic Arcade Action?
There’s something about PPKP that just makes it an instant classic.
Wait, that’s not right. It’s everything about PPKP. The overwhelming 90s nostalgia you get from the pixelated graphics and the character animations is just the beginning. Once you get into it, you’ll be surprised at how much fast-paced strategy can be packed into a game with only two buttons.
PPKP (Short for Punch, Punch, Kick, Punch) is a side-scrolling fighting game that takes us back to classics like TMNT, except perfectly suited for our modern touch screen devices. But there’s much more to this addictive battler than just paying homage to the games of the past.
Our hats are off to the developers for achieving both complexity and minimalism at the same damn time. For starters, you are introduced to how the game works with absolutely zero on-screen text. In fact, the only text you’ll ever read in the game is in the form of numbers.
PPKP feels and plays like an arcade game. It’s all about learning different button combos that perform different attacks. As you progress through the game, you’ll figure out how to chain attacks together for bonus damage and points. Timing your defense moves is key to staying alive, so you’ll have to learn how to watch for the visual cues that tell you which button to hit next for maximum effect. There’s so much packed into each punch punch kick punch of this incredible throwback masterpiece.
It’s a game we’ll be playing for a long time to come.
